Former U.S. President Donald Trump narrowly avoided an assassination attempt during a golf game at his West Palm Beach, Florida, club, just 48 hours before his appearance in Flint, Michigan.
The alarming incident took place on Sunday morning when Secret Service agents spotted a man armed with an AK-style rifle attempting to target Trump from a concealed position near the course’s shrubbery.
The suspect, identified as 58-year-old Ryan Routh, was reportedly within a few hundred yards of the former president when agents intervened. Secret Service agents quickly fired at the suspect, who dropped his weapon and fled the scene in an SUV. Law enforcement later apprehended Routh in a nearby county, and investigators recovered two backpacks, a scope, and a GoPro camera at the scene.
Fortunately, no shots were fired by the suspect, and Trump remained unharmed. He later reassured his supporters via social media, stating, “There were gunshots in my vicinity, but I AM SAFE AND WELL.” Trump also expressed his gratitude to the Secret Service, calling them “brave and dedicated Patriots.”
This incident adds to a growing list of threats against Trump, including a previous assassination attempt in July at a Pennsylvania rally where a bullet grazed his ear. Security concerns have prompted questions about the adequacy of Secret Service measures, especially in light of Trump’s active presidential campaign and public appearances.
Despite this latest threat, Trump has maintained his rigorous campaign schedule. He addressed his supporters in Flint, Michigan, just two days later, where he emphasized the risks of the presidency, saying, “The presidency is more dangerous than driving a racecar or riding a bull.” Trump vowed to continue his campaign undeterred, reiterating his commitment to his political goals and refusing to be intimidated by threats.

With public events lined up in Michigan and New York, security around Trump has been heightened.
Trump’s team has urged vigilance, particularly in the run-up to the 2024 presidential election, as political violence and threats become more pronounced.
