Tanga Regional Commissioner, Ambassador Dr. Batilda Burian, has mandated strict regulations for the upcoming local government elections set for November 27, 2024.
She has warned residents against the use of illegal weapons during the electoral process, with penalties including fines of up to 300,000 Tanzanian Shillings, imprisonment for a maximum of 12 months, or both sanctions combined.
Addressing the press in Tanga, Dr. Burian outlined specific areas where the possession of weapons is strictly prohibited. These include candidate nomination sites, campaign events, appeal hearings, voter registration centers, polling stations, and vote counting centers. She emphasized that any infractions in these designated areas will result in immediate and severe consequences.

Dr. Burian also highlighted additional offenses to be avoided to ensure a smooth electoral process. These include the destruction of voter registration lists or election documents, and the dissemination of false information aimed at influencing voting or candidacy.
The Regional Commissioner’s guidelines are designed to uphold the integrity of the electoral process and ensure a peaceful and fair election. Residents are urged to comply with these regulations to contribute to a successful and orderly election period.
