A shark attack occurred off the coast of Charleston, South Carolina on Thursday while a man was spearfishing, as reported by Coast Guard Sector Charleston.
The victim, a 65-year-old individual, sustained the bite approximately 20 miles from the Charleston shoreline, stated Petty Officer 3rd Class Vincent Moreno through local news outlet WCSC.
The incident took place Thursday night while the man was on a 28-foot boat. A fellow passenger on the vessel administered a tourniquet to stem the bleeding until Coast Guardsmen reached the scene.

Charleston Harbor Marine Police arrived to evaluate the man’s injuries and confirmed that the bleeding had ceased, according to Moreno.
Subsequently, authorities directed the boat to navigate toward Charleston Harbor to rendezvous with EMS at Tad Street adjacent to Coast Guard Station Charleston.
EMS then transported the man to the Medical University of South Carolina for further medical attention. As of Friday night, the victim’s condition remains undisclosed.
