A tragic accident occurred on December 6, 2024, in Mbande, Kongwa District, Dodoma, where a passenger bus collided with a cargo truck, resulting in 23 people sustaining injuries.
Among the victims were 17 Members of Parliament, two police officers, a driver, a conductor, and two parliamentary staff members.
Local police reported that the accident was caused when the bus driver attempted to overtake the truck without following proper road safety protocols. This maneuver resulted in the crash, which left numerous individuals injured.
Eyewitnesses stated that the bus’s attempt to overtake was performed in a risky manner, adding to the severity of the accident. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine whether additional factors, such as speeding or reckless driving, played a role.
The injured individuals were immediately transported to Benjamin Mkapa Hospital in Dodoma, where Health Minister Jenista Mhagama confirmed that they were receiving medical attention. She reassured the public that the victims were in stable condition and that necessary diagnostic procedures were ongoing.
