Most Development Projects at Advanced Stages – Govt

The government has reported significant progress in its key projects and programs aimed at boosting the economy, enhancing the well-being of citizens, and developing human capital across the country.

During the evaluation of the National Development Plan for 2023/24 in Dodoma, Minister of State in the President’s Office (Planning and Investment) Prof Kitila Mkumbo highlighted the advancements made in various initiatives.

Key highlights include:

– The Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) project:
– The Dar es Salaam to Morogoro stretch is at 98.84% completion.
– The Morogoro-Makutopora stretch is at 96.35% completion.
– The Mwanza-Isaka stretch has reached 52.69% completion.

– Railway infrastructure:
– Construction progress on locomotive engines and the MGR Kaliua-Mpanda railway.

– Infrastructure development:
– Progress on the Kigongo-Busisi Bridge in Mwanza Region.
– Advancements in aviation services, with Air Tanzania Company Limited acquiring new aircraft.

– Road projects:
– Completion of tarmac and gravel roads, bridges, culverts, and drainage systems.

– Port development:
– Agreements signed for port operations with expectations of significant investments.

– Energy sector:
– Progress on the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project, contributing to increased electricity generation.

– ICT projects:
– Expansion of the Tanzanian National ICT Broadband Backbone.

– Agriculture initiatives:
– Distribution of quality seeds and fertilizers to farmers, leading to increased food production.

– Irrigation schemes:
– Construction and rehabilitation of schemes to expand irrigated land.

– Warehouse construction:
– Progress on warehouses in various regions for food storage.

– Livestock and fish products:
– Implementation of a project to add value to products through vaccine production.
