The death of Archbishop Joseph Bundala (55) of the Methodist Churches of Tanzania (MCT), who is alleged to have committed suicide, has raised many questions. His body was finally buried yesterday in the church grounds at Ihumwa, Dodoma.
During the burial yesterday, the church leadership did not disclose the cause of death of their leader, emphasizing that they are waiting for investigation reports.

Archbishop Bundala was found dead, allegedly having hanged himself in his office located at the church in Meriwa Street, Ipagala Ward, in Dodoma on May 16 this year.
Conducting the farewell service at his residence in Ihumwa, Dodoma, Deputy Archbishop of the church, Samuel Nyanza, expressed that they entrust all occurrences and discussions to God.
“They talk a lot about the church, but the church will continue to stand firm. Many media reports have been exaggerating; these words are even on the kanga (a type of cloth with sayings), we will not be afraid of words,” said the bishop.
He elaborated that following the incident, numerous reports have surfaced, which they perceive as attempts to undermine the church. They found solace in a letter from Dodoma Region’s Sheikh, Mustapha Rajab, advising them to prioritize respecting both the leader and the church.
Bishop Nyanza said the church is one of the churches with good foundations, explaining that Bishop Bundala was cheerful and will be remembered for his life.
Speaking on behalf of private school owners in Dodoma Region, former Dodoma MP David Malole said the union has lost a member who had good cooperation.
Ipagala Ward Councillor, Dotto Gombo, said they will remember Bishop Bundala for his love of development and good cooperation with the community.
Chief of Pentecostal Education, Peter Konki, said they received the news with sadness because Bishop Bundala had great cooperation.
Reading the biography of the deceased, family member Kikoti Lissu disclosed that Bishop Bundala was born on March 18, 1969, in Bubinza village, Kishapu District, Shinyanga Region, as the sixth child among 11 to Michael Bundala and ScolastHe said Bishop Bundala left behind a wife and three children, emphasizing that the cause of his death is under investigation.
Bishop Bundala was found dead in his office on May 16 at 1 a.m., with initial reports suggesting suicide.
The Acting Dodoma Regional Police Commander, Alchelaus Mutalemwa, stated that the police are currently conducting an investigation into the incident. The body was discovered in his church office.
According to Mutalemwa, a note was found at the scene providing possible motives for the suicide, including financial debts and a disagreement regarding the administration of private schools. However, the exact amount of money owed was not disclosed in the note.
