Zanzibar’s Minister of State for Labour, Economy, and Investments, Mr. Sharif Ali Sharif, has highlighted the significance of the ‘Tanzania/Zanzibar-Belgium Forum’ held this week, noting that it is one of the early outcomes of President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s visit to Belgium earlier in the year.
During the forum, Mr. Sharif emphasized how President Samia’s visit laid the groundwork for future collaborations. He expressed optimism that the engagement between Tanzania and Belgium would open doors for even more investment opportunities, particularly in Zanzibar and Mainland Tanzania.
“We hope to gain even more from the discussions initiated during President Samia’s visit,” said Mr. Sharif. “This forum marks just the beginning, with a delegation from Belgium now in Zanzibar to explore investment prospects.”
The forum, which brought together officials and business leaders from both countries, focuses on building deeper economic ties. Mr. Sharif explained that during President Samia’s visit, Tanzanian officials held productive talks with potential Belgian investors. These conversations centered around sectors such as renewable energy (including solar and wind), logistics, and projects related to tourism and the blue economy.
Belgium, with its advanced technology and expertise, is keen to contribute to Tanzania’s growth by investing in these promising sectors. The goal is to establish long-term partnerships that can benefit both nations, and the forum serves as a crucial step toward making that vision a reality.
Zanzibar, with its beautiful landscapes and strategic location, holds significant potential for foreign investment, especially in emerging sectors like renewable energy and sustainable tourism. The forum serves as an opportunity to promote these industries, where Belgian expertise could help drive progress.

The Minister stressed that this initiative is not just about attracting investments but also about establishing collaborative relationships that can sustain growth over the long term. “We’re looking at more than just capital; we’re looking at meaningful partnerships that can support Zanzibar’s and Tanzania’s broader economic goals,” Mr. Sharif added.
By leveraging Belgium’s expertise and Tanzania’s growing market, both nations are set to benefit from a more interconnected and resilient future.
President Samia’s diplomatic efforts, alongside initiatives like the Zanzibar-Belgium Forum, continue to pave the way for more international partnerships. With every step, Tanzania is opening its doors wider to investment and forging stronger ties with global economic players.
