The governments of Tanzania and Algeria have agreed to promote economic diplomacy by utilizing the significant economic opportunities available in the two countries to build the prosperity of their people.
This came when the Minister of Foreign Affairs and African Cooperation, Hon. Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo (Mb.) met for talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora of Algeria, Hon. Ahmed Attaf on the sidelines of the 46th Session of the African Union Council of Ministers held on 12 and 13 February, 2025 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The leaders discussed the importance of preparations for the next meeting of the Joint Permanent Commission for Cooperation (JPC) between Tanzania and Algeria, the last of which was held in 2023 in Algiers, Algeria. The next meeting was agreed to be held in 2025 in Tanzania, and they agreed to convene another meeting early in line with the agreement establishing the commission, which calls for the meeting to be convened every two years to allow for monitoring of implementation in the agreed areas of cooperation.

They also discussed strengthening cooperation in the education sector, where Hon. Attaf promised that Algeria will continue to provide funding opportunities for long-term and short-term training with the aim of building capacity and experience in various academic and professional matters.
They also stressed the importance of promoting cooperation in the trade, energy and defense and security sectors. Also, investment in fertilizer production that will meet the real needs of farmers in Tanzania and enable them to achieve the goals of the Building a Better Tomorrow (BBT) Project to increase youth employment and do agribusiness.
Cooperation in regional and international forums is among the issues emphasized to ensure that the two countries stand firm in supporting strategic and mutually beneficial issues in regional and international forums.
