Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation Hon. Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo has emphasized that Tanzania will continue to support efforts to restore peace and security that are being made in various parts of Africa, including the West African Zone, the Horn of Africa and South Sudan.
Minister Kombo has stated this while addressing the First African Peace and Security Debate (APSD) aimed at discussing and finding solutions to ongoing conflicts in various parts of Africa organized by the Thabo Mbeki Institute, held in Johannesburg, South Africa on October 6, 2024.
Tanzania, as members of the Security Council of the African Union, we support all the efforts made by the Regional, International and various Institutions to restore peace and security in the respective areas, Africa has been endowed with a wealth of resources, let’s stop conflicts. Minister Kombo representing the President of the United Republic of Tanzania Mr. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan in the debate, in addition to supporting efforts, has called on peace stakeholders across Africa to ensure that all parties involved in conflicts in different parts of the continent are involved in every step of the resolution of those conflicts, including being invited to talks and debates to discuss issues of peace and security.

Explaining Tanzania’s long-term contribution and experience in matters of peace building and conflict resolution in various parts of Africa, Minister Kombo has encouraged the importance of involving women and youth in activities to protect and restore peace and security.
In addition, Minister Kombo in the debate has identified seven (7) other important issues to be considered in efforts to protect peace and security in Africa, which is to strengthen cooperation with regional and international stakeholders in finding resources and expertise needed for the resolution of relevant conflicts, to ensure negotiations to seek peace and security become inclusive, focus on good governance, democracy and human rights and empower Women and Youth.
Other issues are investing in strengthening regional integration, strengthening systems to show indicators of breaches of peace and security, including crime in border areas and investing in building more capacity on issues of peace and security.
Currently, Tanzania is contributing to peace and security forces in various areas including Central Africa, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Mozambique in the state of Cabo Delgado and South Sudan.
