The Bank of Tanzania (BoT) has refuted circulating reports suggesting the introduction of a new Sh10,000 note featuring President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s image.
In response to widely shared images of the alleged new note, the BoT issued an official statement categorically denying the existence of any such currency. The Central Bank emphasized that it has not announced or authorized the issuance of a new Sh10,000 note, urging the public to disregard the rumors and images circulating on social media.
“We would like to inform the public that these reports are false. The Bank of Tanzania has not made any declaration regarding the introduction of a new Sh10,000 note,” the statement read.
The BoT reassured citizens that any major changes in the country’s currency, including the introduction of new banknotes, would be communicated through official and transparent channels. As such, Tanzanians are urged to rely solely on legitimate sources of information to avoid being misled by unfounded claims.

The Bank highlighted the potential risks of spreading misinformation, warning that such actions could undermine confidence in the nation’s monetary system. The Central Bank affirmed that no new currency denominations, including the rumored Sh10,000 note, are scheduled for introduction. The BoT also indicated that it would take necessary measures to track the source of the misleading information
