A recent report by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), indicating that Tanzania’s economy is expected to grow by 6% in 2025, is set to position the country favorably to increase investment levels, create more jobs, and reduce poverty.
Speaking to the press in Dodoma on October 24, 2024, the Chief Government Spokesperson, Mr. Thobias Makoba, stated that the IMF report presents a positive outlook for Tanzania’s economic growth and builds confidence among various stakeholders to invest in the country.
“On October 22, 2024, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) released the 2024 World Economic Outlook report, and the government is proud to share the good news that Tanzania’s economy is projected to grow by 6% in 2025, up from 5.1% in 2024. This GDP growth places Tanzania among the top 10 fastest-growing and most resilient economies in Africa,” explained Mr. Makoba.
He added that due to this economic growth, Tanzania expects a significant increase in investment, growth in other economic sectors such as industry and agriculture, and a reduction in individual poverty.
“It is the aim of the sixth-phase government to continue creating a more favorable environment, allowing our economy to grow more competitively on the global stage,” emphasized the Chief Government Spokesperson.
Regarding the progress of the local government election process, the Chief Government Spokesperson mentioned that after the completion of the registration exercise, the current phase involves registered citizens reviewing their information in the register and request corrections if necessary.
He noted that corrections may involve adjusting names if there were errors, removing the names of those who have passed away or were ineligible, and that this review, which began on October 21, will continue until October 27, 2024. He urged all registered citizens to come forward and verify their details.
He also highlighted that if any Tanzanian has complaints or concerns regarding the local government election process, they should submit them in accordance with Regulation 11 (4) and (5) of the Local Government Election Regulations of 2024, Government Notices No. 571, 572, 573, and 574 of July 12, 2024, and Regulation 10 (4) and (5) of the 2024 Local Government Election Regulations.
In another development, the Chief Government Spokesperson urged the media to adhere to the law, ethics, and professionalism in journalism, highlighting that the sixth-phase government continues to take measures and establish strategies to strengthen media freedom.
He emphasized that while the government is reinforcing media freedom, it is crucial for media outlets to understand that freedom comes with responsibility, and every media house should operate professionally and with patriotism.

“The Government recognizes that the world is currently facing a significant challenge regarding the weaponization of information through media, targeting individuals, groups, or governments. As you may recall, some countries have faced severe challenges and conflicts, including wars, due to recklessness, incitement, and harmful behavior fueled by the media. Therefore, the government’s desire is to see the media operate with professionalism and patriotism for the benefit of all citizens,” emphasized Mr. Thobias Makoba.
