Two planes collided at Nairobi National Park, resulting in two fatalities while 44 others escaped unharmed on Tuesday .
One of the aircraft involved was a Dash 8 operated by Safari Link, carrying 44 passengers and crew en route to Diani. The other aircraft was a Cessna plane conducting a training session with two individuals on board.
The Cessna crashed in the park, while the Dash 8 safely returned to Wilson Airport. Both planes had taken off from Wilson Airport, with officials confirming the two casualties from the accident.
All 39 passengers and five crew on board the Safarilink plane were evacuated safely.
Safarilink Aviation acknowledged the incident, In a statement, they reported,
“This morning at 9:45 Local Time, our flight number 053 with 39 passengers and 5 crew en route to Diani experienced a loud bang shortly after take-off.” The crew promptly decided to return to Nairobi-Wilson Airport for assessment and landed safely with no reported casualties.
The operator mentioned that relevant authorities have been informed, and an investigation into the incident is underway in collaboration with Safarilink Aviation.
The two who died were from 99 Flying Club which is a flying school based in Nairobi that caters for the private, commercial and airline sectors. Police are investigating the accident.
