The Minister for Constitution and Legal Affairs, Hon. Dr. Damas Ndumbaro, officially inaugurated the meeting of the African Ministers of Justice Committee, focused on reviewing and discussing 12 protocols submitted by various sectoral committees.
The protocols, prepared by experts, are undergoing recommendations before being presented to decision-making bodies.
The meeting follows a preparatory session held by experts that began on December 14, 2024, and continues with the ministers’ session from December 21 to 22, 2024, at the Golden Tulip Hotel, Zanzibar.
Twelve documents are scheduled for discussion, with some already endorsed by experts, while others are under deliberation by the ministers for in-depth analysis and resolution.

“I commend the committee of experts for their extensive and rigorous work over the past seven days, reviewing all documents and presenting them to the honorable ministers of justice and human rights in Africa. Among these documents, nine address issues related to digital trade, human rights, and disaster management,” stated Minister Ndumbaro.
Minister Ndumbaro emphasized the importance of the protocols on digital trade, noting that they highlight the need for African Union member states to embrace the digital economy.
He pointed out that the digital economy transcends geographical boundaries and offers vast opportunities to connect the world as a global village, underscoring Africa’s need to harness these opportunities for economic growth.
One of the key agenda items of the meeting is the election of leaders for the African Ministers of Justice Committee, with the United Republic of Tanzania expected to take a leadership position in the committee.
The session is being attended by representatives from 38 African countries.
