Deogratius Ndejembi, the Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for Labor, Youth, Employment, and Persons with Disabilities, has issued a stern warning to employers in the country who have not registered with the Occupational Safety and Health Agency (OSHA).
Addressing journalists in Dodoma, Minister Ndejembi emphasised that the government will not tolerate employers who disregard laws and pose risks to the health and safety of workers.
Minister Ndejembi’s statement comes ahead of the upcoming International Day of Occupational Safety and Health on April 28 this year.
Calling on all employers nationwide, Minister Ndejembi reiterated the importance of workplace safety and health and the necessity of adhering to laws and regulations set by OSHA.
“I strongly warn employers who have not yet registered with OSHA. We will not hesitate to take strict legal action against those who violate workplace safety and health laws,” said Minister Ndejembi.
Furthermore, Minister Ndejembi explained that OSHA has strengthened its registration system by integrating with other essential systems such as the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA).
This means that employers not registered with OSHA will not be able to hide, as their information will be accessible through these integrated systems. “It is crucial for employers to understand that OSHA will conduct inspections in their workplaces.
We urge them to register immediately and ensure they implement the guidelines and regulations put in place to protect the health and safety of their workers” Minister Ndejembi added.
Minister Ndejembi also announced that following the International Day of Occupational Safety and Health celebrations, OSHA will launch a special inspection campaign, collaborating with the government to visit various employers across the country.
The aim is to ensure that workplace safety and health laws are fully implemented and to identify employers who have not registered with OSHA.
The Tanzanian government continues to strengthen its efforts to ensure workplace safety and health. Strict measures will be taken against employers who defy laws and endanger the health and safety of workers.
Minister Ndejembi urged employees to be aware of their rights and to report any violations of workplace safety and health laws to OSHA.
The International Day of Occupational Safety and Health celebrations are vital in promoting awareness and understanding of safety and health in workplaces.
The Tanzanian government continues to collaborate with Organizations and other stakeholders to ensure safe and healthy working environments under the leadership of OSHA.
