Residents of Muhintiri Ward in Ikungi District, Singida Region, are demanding justice and legal action following the tragic death of Frank Joseph, a 28-year-old resident, who allegedly died after being assaulted by the Village Executive Officer of Muhintiri Village and members of the village militia.
The incident has sparked outrage among the community, who are calling on the government to ensure that those responsible are held accountable. Speaking during the funeral ceremony held today in Muhintiri Village, several residents voiced their frustration and disbelief over the circumstances that led to Joseph’s death. They claim that the Village Executive Officer had instructed the militia to arrest the young man due to a dispute he had with another youth in the village.
Eyewitnesses reported that the arrest was carried out with excessive force, and Joseph was detained in the office of the Village Executive Officer, where the alleged assault took place. The residents emphasized that Joseph was not given a fair chance to explain his side of the story and was instead subjected to harsh treatment, which they believe was unjustified and inhumane.
Medical reports from the hospital have confirmed the horrific details of the incident, revealing that sticks had been forcibly inserted into the young man’s rectum, causing severe internal injuries that ultimately led to his death. This revelation has further fueled anger and demands for justice, with community members calling the act an “unthinkable and brutal abuse of power.”
“This is not the kind of leadership we deserve in our village. The Village Executive Officer is supposed to protect and guide us, not harm us. We demand that he, along with those involved, face the full force of the law,” one resident passionately stated during the funeral proceedings.
Authorities have responded to the outcry, confirming that three suspects, including the Village Executive Officer, have been arrested and are currently in police custody as investigations into the incident continue. The Singida Regional Police Commander assured the community that a thorough investigation would be conducted to ensure that justice is served and that those found responsible for the heinous act would be prosecuted.
