The Republic of Mauritius is holding its National Assembly Elections today, 10th November 2024, with polls opening at 7 AM and closing at 7 PM.
The total number of registered voters is 1,002,857, who are casting their ballots to determine the country’s political future.
Leading the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Electoral Observation Mission (SEOM) for this election is former Chief Justice of Tanzania, Mohammed Chande Othman, along with the SADC Executive Secretary, Mr. Elias M. Magosi. Together, they are overseeing the voting process at selected polling centers across the nation. SADC observers are stationed in all ten administrative districts, which include nine districts on the mainland of Mauritius and one on the island of Rodrigues.
The SEOM team, along with observers from other international bodies, is carefully monitoring the elections to ensure a fair and transparent process. The African Union Electoral Observation Mission (AUEOM), the Francophonie Electoral Observer Mission (FEO), and the Electoral Commissions Forum of SADC Countries (ECF-SADC) are also participating in the observation.
The electoral observation missions will be releasing their preliminary statements on 12th November 2024. These statements will cover their observations of the pre-election processes and the voting day activities, providing insight into the conduct and transparency of the elections.
As Mauritius continues its democratic journey, the international community remains focused on ensuring that the elections are free, fair, and credible, marking an important moment in the political landscape of the island nation.
