Tanzania’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Dr. Doto Biteko, arrived in Gaborone on November 8, 2024, to participate in the inauguration of Botswana’s President-elect, Duma Boko.
The ceremony, held at the country’s National Stadium, marks a significant political milestone as Boko becomes Botswana’s sixth president, representing the Umbrella for Democratic Change party.
Upon his arrival at Gaborone’s main airport, Dr. Biteko was warmly received by high-ranking officials, including Botswana’s Secretary for Youth, Gender, Culture, and Sports, Bridget John, Tanzania’s Ambassador to South Africa, James Bwana, and other senior Botswana officials. This welcoming ceremony underscored the importance of the occasion and the close ties between Tanzania and Botswana.
Dr. Biteko’s presence at the inauguration reflects Tanzania’s support for democratic transitions within the region, as well as the strengthening of diplomatic ties between the two nations.
