A long-serving chairperson in Makaburi A Street, Hamis Lukinga, 70, has once again proven his unwavering connection with the community, winning his sixth consecutive term in Tanzania’s local government elections.
Lukinga, commonly referred to as “Mzee Kiuno,” has held this leadership role since 1994, guiding his neighborhood through various challenges for three decades.
Representing the ruling CCM party, Lukinga has been a staple of grassroots leadership, with residents praising his dedication and hands-on approach. In a post-election interview, Lukinga reflected on his tenure, emphasizing his unique leadership style focused on advice and guidance rather than material support.
“My work has always been about offering solutions and guidance to the people of this community,” Lukinga said. “I believe in solving problems collaboratively and fostering development through trust and transparency.”
