The President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, has expressed Tanzania’s unwavering support for the former Prime Minister of Kenya, H.E. Raila Amolo Odinga, who is vying for the prestigious position of Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission.
Speaking during the launch of Odinga’s campaign in Nairobi, President Samia praised the Kenyan leader as a true “pan-Africanist” who firmly believes in the integration and unity of the African continent, and the immense benefits it can bring to the people of Africa.
“Tanzanians know Mr. Odinga as a champion of African unity and integration,” said President Samia, emphasizing the deep respect and admiration Tanzanians have for the Kenyan statesman.
The event in Nairobi was also attended by other prominent African leaders, including the President of Uganda, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the President of South Sudan, H.E. Salva Kiir Mayardit, and the Prime Minister of Burundi, H.E. Gervais Ndirakobuca, underscoring the regional support Odinga has garnered in his bid to lead the continental body.

President Samia praised Odinga’s ability to maintain strong and cordial relations with African leaders and partners, a crucial attribute for the AU Chairperson. She described Odinga as a “wise leader” with the necessary skills and vision to build a strong, prosperous, and united African Union that can effectively advocate for Africa’s interests on the global stage.
