The National Electoral Commission (NEC) has asked political party agents to avoid interfering with the work of voter registration officials during the ongoing voter registry update.
The commission is keen to ensure a smooth, transparent process as part of preparations for the upcoming elections.
This message was delivered today by the Vice-Chairperson of NEC, retired Court of Appeal Judge Mbarouk Salim Mbarouk, who opened a training session for regional election staff in Tanga. The training is part of the preparation to ensure that local officials are equipped to keep the voter registry accurate and up-to-date.
Judge Mbarouk urged party agents to cooperate with election officials to identify voters in their respective areas. This, he said, would promote transparency and accountability throughout the registration process. While party agents will be allowed to observe the process at registration centers, the focus will remain on supporting the integrity of the process and ensuring that only eligible voters are included in the list.
“Party agents are welcome to be present at the registration centers to help ensure transparency and to verify that applicants come from the correct areas, which will help avoid unnecessary disturbances,” said Judge Mbarouk.

He added that the presence of agents should help build trust in the process and reduce the chances of conflict or misunderstandings.
This is part of NEC’s broader effort to maintain the fairness and credibility of the voter registration process. By involving political party agents, the commission hopes to increase confidence in the exercise and ensure the list of voters is accurate ahead of the elections.
With the voter update in full swing, NEC is committed to ensuring that all eligible voters are included in the registry. This is essential for ensuring the integrity of the upcoming elections and promoting a transparent, democratic process.
