The United Republic of Tanzania is facing a significant challenge with regard to employment, particularly for the youth who have completed their higher education.
Dr. Godwin Mollel, the Deputy Minister for Health, has stated that the government has put in place a system to prioritize volunteers when employment opportunities arise.
Speaking in the Parliament in Dodoma, Dr. Mollel explained that the employment process for supporting cadres, such as Accountants, Supply Officers, and Drivers, is handled by the Public Service Recruitment Secretariat. However, the health worker cadres, including Doctors, Nurses, and Pharmacists, whose employment is overseen by the Ministry of Health, are not included in this process.
Dr. Mollel stated that in order to address this issue, the government will enhance the communication strategy within the government to clearly identify the actual needs of these cadres. Additionally, the employment permits issued will also consider the specific requirements of the respective cadres within the Ministry of Health.

The challenge of employment in Tanzania is a problem that affects many young people, particularly those who have completed their higher education. Many of them have diligently pursued their education, but when faced with a lack of employment opportunities, the situation can be distressing.
Many young people are forced to wait for extended periods before securing employment, and even after being employed, some receive salaries that are insufficient to meet their daily needs. This can negatively impact their living conditions and have consequences for the broader community.
The government is expected to take decisive actions to address the employment challenge in the country. Strengthening various economic sectors, providing easy access to loans for youth interested in self-employment, and increasing the availability of training opportunities and job skills, are some of the measures that can help tackle this issue.
It is imperative that robust and sustainable strategies are put in place to effectively address the employment challenge in Tanzania, ensuring that the country’s youth have equal opportunities to secure employment and contribute to their personal development, as well as the overall progress of the nation.
