Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa on Wednesday delivered a detailed address to the National Assembly, outlining Tanzania’s major achievements in the 2024/2025
financial year and presenting the Government’s expenditure estimates for the year 2025/2026.
In his speech, the Prime Minister praised the leadership of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, attributing recent economic growth, improved public services, and expanded infrastructure to her steady governance since 2021.
Tanzania’s economy grew by 5.5 percent in 2024, up from 5.1 percent the year before, supported by increased energy production, expanded transport networks, and rising investment in key sectors. More than 8 million new jobs were created between 2020 and early 2025.
Among major accomplishments, the government successfully connected all 12,318 mainland villages to electricity, began passenger services on the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) between Dar es Salaam and Dodoma, and completed the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project, adding 2,115 megawatts to the national grid.

Social services also saw significant gains. Twenty-six girls’ science secondary schools were completed across all regions, and maternal and child health indicators improved markedly. Tourist arrivals rose dramatically, reaching over 5.3 million in 2024, thanks to international promotion campaigns led by President Samia.
The Prime Minister also expressed sorrow over the loss of national leaders and public servants over the past year, including former Minister Prof. Philemon Sarungi and WHO Africa Regional Director Dr. Faustine Ndugulile. He also conveyed condolences to victims of recent disasters such as the Kariakoo building collapse.
Looking forward, Majaliwa reaffirmed the Government’s focus on rural electrification, digital infrastructure, investment in education, and economic diplomacy. He urged the public to support CCM’s presidential candidates President Samia Suluhu Hassan and Dr. Hussein Mwinyi nominated for the upcoming October 2025 elections.
“Our journey is one of unity, resilience, and development,” said Majaliwa. “Let us stay the course and build a prosperous Tanzania.”
