This comes as a response to a severe weather alert issued by the Tanzania Meteorological Agency (TMA), forecasting strong winds exceeding 40 kilometers per hour over the next three days, beginning Sunday, September 1, 2024.
The TMA’s warning specifies that the severe weather conditions are expected to impact several regions. These include the southern coast of the Indian Ocean, particularly in the Lindi and Mtwara regions, as well as parts of the southern Lake Tanganyika area in Rukwa and Katavi. Additionally, the strong winds may affect the northern Indian Ocean coast, including Dar es Salaam, Tanga, the Pwani region (which includes Mafia Island), and the islands of Unguja and Pemba.

The anticipated severe weather could lead to significant disruptions in maritime activities, including delays and cancellations of planned operations, and potential damage to coastal infrastructure.
In response to these risks, Tasac has strongly advised all maritime operators, including fishermen and transport providers, to exercise extreme caution.
They are encouraged to keep a close watch on weather updates and implement necessary precautions to ensure safety and minimize the impact of the adverse weather conditions on their operations.
