Tanzania and Norway have signed a bilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on food security and agriculture, demonstrating their joint commitment to strengthening Tanzania’s capacity and ability to transform the agri-food sector.
The deal was signed in the presence of President Samia Suluhu Hassan in Oslo.
“In 2024, we also celebrate the 50th anniversary of bilateral collaboration on agriculture, which has contributed to Tanzania’s national policies aimed at transforming and modernizing the agricultural sector,” a statement issued by the State House said.
President Samia flew to Norway on Tuesday after concluding her visit to the Vatican upon an invitation from H.M. King Harald and H.M. Queen Sonja of the Kingdom of Norway.
She was accompanied by a high-level delegation, senior government officials, members of the Tanzanian business community, and five ministers, including the Minister for Agriculture, Hussein Bashe, who signed the MoU.
According to a statement issued by the Director of Presidential Communication on Thursday, in addition to cooperation in the agriculture sector, the two countries have also agreed to collaborate on renewable energy, climate, social security, and public financial management.
The collaboration involves government institutions, universities, NGOs, and the private sector in both countries.
Additionally, the Head of State held discussions with the Prime Minister of Norway, Jonas Gahr Støre, during which they both agreed to continue strengthening bilateral relations, with particular attention to promoting trade and business cooperation.
President Samia’s visit to Norway marks the 60th anniversary of bilateral relations between Tanzania and Norway and demonstrates the enduring commitment of both sides to advancing and diversifying their long-term friendship and cooperation.
