In a devastating incident in the village of Mazoezi, Nachingwea District, Lindi Region, four children from the same family have tragically lost their lives after a fire broke out in their home.
The fire, which was caused by a candle, claimed the lives of Hassan Juma (11), Shufaa Juma (9), Basrat Juma (6), and Izdat Boniface (4).
According to the Acting Police Commander of Lindi, Andrew Ngasa, the tragic event occurred on Saturday night, February 15, 2025, around 3:00 AM. At the time of the incident, the children were alone in their bedroom. Their mother, Maua Mshamu, 43, had stepped out to look for another child who had returned home later than expected.
To get some light, the children decided to light a candle and placed it near the curtain in their room. Tragically, the candle set the curtain on fire, which quickly spread, engulfing the entire room.
By the time their mother returned, it was too late. The fire had already taken its toll. The loss of four young lives has left the community heartbroken and in shock. Many have expressed their deep condolences to the grieving family.
