Today, on June 8, 2024, the campaign to promote and attract investment opportunities in Tanzania in Japan, spearheaded by His Excellency Baraka Luvanda, Tanzania’s Ambassador to Japan, and Mr. Gilead Teri, the CEO of the Tanzania Investment Center (TIC), has concluded with significant success, garnering strong interest from Japanese companies to invest in Tanzania.
The campaign, which ran from May 27, 2024, included investment forums held in major Japanese cities such as Tokyo, Osaka, Shizuoka, and Chiba. These forums aimed to showcase Tanzania’s investment potential and attract Japanese investors. Additionally, targeted seminars were conducted for senior executives and business owners associated with leading Japanese business organizations such as KEIZA DOYUKAI and KEIDANREN, as well as the Japan Association for the Promotion of Infrastructure Development in Africa (JAIDA) and the Tanzanian diaspora community in Japan.
Furthermore, face-to-face meetings were held with various Japanese government agencies including the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), along with companies involved in agriculture, infrastructure development, transportation, healthcare, blue economy, and manufacturing. Notable companies participating included TOPPAN HOLDINGS, TOYOTA TSUSHO, SUMITOMO, EARTH PHARMACEUTICALS, YAMAHA, SUZUKI, KIKKOMAN, and DAIKIN in partnership with a cold storage company operating in Tanzania.

As a result of the campaign, approximately 100 Japanese investors are expected to visit Tanzania in October 2024 for further discussions and to finalize negotiations with Tanzanian companies and sector institutions. Additionally, agreements have been reached between JICA and TIC to exchange experts to stimulate further Japanese investment.
This unique campaign, aimed at promoting Japanese investment, was organized through collaboration between the Embassy of Tanzania in Japan, the Tanzania Investment Center (TIC), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The successful conclusion of this campaign highlights the growing economic ties between Tanzania and Japan and underscores Tanzania’s attractiveness as an investment destination. The anticipated influx of Japanese investment and the exchange of expertise are expected to contribute significantly to Tanzania’s economic growth and development.
