The ACT Wazalendo Party is preparing to participate in the upcoming Local Government, Village, and Ward elections by fielding many candidates and strategically positioning itself to win in numerous areas across the country.
For us at ACT Wazalendo, the 2024 Local Government, Village, and Ward elections were seen as an opportunity to reshape the political landscape in Tanzania, thanks to our extensive work building the party’s network and preparing for the elections, which began well before the 2020 General Elections.
The recent disqualification of our party’s candidates during the nomination process on November 8, 2024, reveals a clear conspiracy by many election officials to undermine ACT Wazalendo. According to reports gathered by our election team, more than 60% of our candidates nationwide were disqualified for reasons that lack legal merit, and instead appear to be driven by the personal preferences of election officials.

OUR APPEAL
1. We urge the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, to instruct her aides to reinstate our candidates, as well as candidates from all opposition parties who have been disqualified in an effort to block competition at the ballot box against the ruling party. ACT Wazalendo is aware that many of those disqualified have not been rejected for legally justifiable reasons but for political ones. Political issues must be resolved politically.
2. We continue to urge our members to persist in submitting petitions to challenge the disqualification of candidates. Every candidate must ensure that, today being the final day, they submit their objections to the election assistant officers to contest their disqualification.
3. ACT Wazalendo continues its efforts to engage with leaders of opposition parties across the country to unite and prevent the actions of corrupt officials who threaten the welfare of democracy by disqualifying opposition candidates.
We aim to ensure that these schemes are controlled and allow the country to remain on a legitimate democratic path.
