Dar es Salaam police have apprehended eight suspects in connection with an attempted abduction that shocked the Kiluvya community on November 11, 2024.

The dramatic incident targeted businessman Deogratius Tarimo, who narrowly escaped being forced into a vehicle by individuals posing as law enforcement officers.

A Bold Attempt in Broad Daylight

According to witnesses, the suspects ambushed Tarimo as he left a meeting, claiming to be police officers. Their attempt to subdue him drew the attention of bystanders when Tarimo resisted, shouting for help and exposing their ruse. A viral video of the altercation shows the businessman being handcuffed as he struggled against his captors. Eventually, the suspects fled the scene, leaving Tarimo behind with the handcuffs still on his wrists.

Speaking to the media, Jumanne Muliro, Dar es Salaam’s Regional Police Commander, confirmed the arrests and assured the public that investigations were ongoing. “We are working to establish the motive behind this crime and ensure those responsible face justice,” he said.

A Call for Vigilance

Commander Muliro urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement. He also stressed the importance of verifying the identities of individuals claiming to be police officers or other officials.

The suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue, and authorities have promised to update the public on the case’s progress. Tarimo, though shaken by the experience, has reportedly expressed gratitude to the bystanders whose quick intervention likely saved his life.
