President Samia Suluhu Hassan has lauded the late former Prime Minister Edward Lowassa for his unwavering commitment to his principles without resorting to disparaging others, citing it as one of the essential lessons Tanzanians should draw from his legacy.
During the state burial ceremony of the late Premier in Arusha over the weekend, President Samia highlighted three key attributes from Edward Lowassa’s life that she believes should be emulated. She emphasized his ability to uphold his principles with dignity, stressing the importance of avoiding abusive or demoralizing language for the betterment of the country.
Recalling the 2015 general election, President Samia reflected on Lowassa’s transition to CHADEMA, where he ran as a Presidential candidate without stooping to expose weaknesses, insult others, or spread misinformation.
President Samia noted, “Lowassa’s background within the CCM party did not deter him from advocating for his policies and expressing his ideas respectfully when he joined another party. Even upon his return to the CCM, he maintained a dignified stance towards the opposition without resorting to negativity.”
She further emphasized the significance of engaging in discussions with mutual respect, tolerance, and a focus on policies that drive development. President Samia highlighted Lowassa’s political maturity as a positive example to follow in honoring his legacy.
