Tanzania has been selected to host the Africa Energy Leaders Summit, known as Mission 300, due to its economic diplomacy under the leadership of President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan.
This announcement was made on January 10, 2025, by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Dr. Doto Biteko, while discussing the summit scheduled for January 27-28, 2025, in Dar es Salaam.
“President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan has worked tirelessly to promote Tanzania internationally, attracting global institutions, companies, and investors. The World Bank and the African Development Bank’s decision to hold this major summit in Tanzania reflects this effort,” Dr. Biteko stated.

He noted that Tanzania’s achievements in the energy sector were another key reason for hosting the summit. The country’s progress aligns with the summit’s agenda to accelerate electrification for 300 million people across Africa by 2030, addressing the needs of 685 million who still lack electricity.
“Tanzania has made significant strides in energy, thanks to President Samia’s strong leadership. The nation now has surplus electricity, with production increasing from 1,470 megawatts to approximately 3,077 megawatts,” Dr. Biteko added.
He highlighted that while electricity access in Africa remains below 50%, Tanzania has surpassed 78%.
Dr. Biteko further revealed that all 12,318 villages in Tanzania are now electrified. A World Bank assessment last year ranked Tanzania as the leading country in Africa for rural electrification.
This milestone positions Tanzania as a model for energy advancement in Africa and reinforces its commitment to sustainable development.
