More than 50 people have died in India in the past three days as the country continues to grapple with a heatwave.
Approximately 33 people died in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh over the weekend due to the heat.
In the state of Odisha (Orissa), around 20 people died due to the intense heatwave, an official told the ANI news agency.

Many of these deaths were reported on June 1st when India voted in the final phase of its general elections.
The results of the election are scheduled to be announced on June 4th.
Every five years, India holds its general elections in the summer months of April and May.
But this year, the heatwave has been breaking records, with the country experiencing frequent, more intense, and longer-lasting heatwaves.
The central government’s health ministry says there have been 56 confirmed deaths from heatwaves from March 1st to May 30th. Nearly 24,849 cases of heatwaves were reported during that period.
