The Political Sins Of Adwoa Safo Come Back To Haunt Her As Dome Kwabenya Delegates Vote Against Her In NPP Primaries.

The embattled Member of Parliament for the Dome Kwabenya Constituency, Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo, is said to have had a tough time in earning the forgiveness of her constituents and seeking their mandate in her reelection bid. Her first hurdle, which seems impossible is to try and convince NPP delegates that she is now a changed person, who is deserving of another chance to represent them as the Party’s Parliamentary Candidate.

The delegates have however overwhelmingly rejected her pleas, arguing strongly that it is her stock-in-trade to always pretend to be “an angel” when primaries (elections) are approaching in order to win sympathy votes, and soon thereafter, she does the complete opposite.

The delegates insist that they cannot be persuaded by Adwoa Safo’s usual pity card and deceptive antiques. They remind Adwoa Safo of her political sins against the NPP, her constituents and the Republic of Ghana, grounding their resolve to vote against her in the internal primaries of the Party. Adwoa Safo’s political sins, according to the delegates, include but not limited to the following:

  1. The Sin of Abandonment

For over two years, Adwoa Safo chose to completely abandon her constituents and went to live abroad claiming to be to attending to some family matters. For two years, Dome Kwabenya Constituency didn’t have a Representative in Parliament to champion their cause. The Constituency didn’t have a voice in Parliament. Adwoa Safo equally abandoned her parliamentary duties, abandoned her ministerial duties, abandoned the NPP and abandoned her own government for over two years.

All attempts to get Adwoa Safo to come to Parliament to help the NPP government in the passage of critical bills and in the conduct of government business in Parliament always proved futile. She constantly held her own party and government to ransom insisting she wouldn’t come to Ghana and be in Parliament until certain conditions were met. Government sometimes had to spend millions of dollars on Adwoa Safo just to get her to come and do her job in Parliament.

Today, the NPP government felt compelled to take Ghana back to the IMF for financial bailout because of Adwoa Safo, whose deliberate refusal to come to Parliament to help government in the timely passage of its critical revenue bills including the e-levy among others, has occasioned our present economic woes. Without a shred of doubt, Adwoa Safo has done more harm to the NPP government than the Minority in Parliament. She is a danger and a great threat to the NPP’s electoral fortunes in 2024 than anyone else.

  1. The Sin of Turning Dome Kwabenya into a Laughing stock

Adwoa Safo did not only abandon the Dome Kwabenya Constituency at the time her constituents needed her the most, but she also turned the Constituency into a laughing stock. Today, Dome Kwabenya has become the only Constituency in Ghana with a TikTok MP. Whereas all other Ghanaians search for their MPs in Parliament or in their respective Constituency Party offices, the people of Dome Kwabenya search for their MP only on TikTok.

Dome Kwabeya has become the only Constituency in Ghana, whose MP is a TikTok celebrity. Adwoa Safo is arguably the most popular TokTok star in Ghana. To make matter worse, when the people of Dome Kwabenya express their outrage at her maladjusted conduct, she adds insult to their injuries by doing more videos depicting her dancing-moves like Michael Jackson, making fun of everybody and slanging with acquired American accent. How condescending!

  1. The Sin of Betrayal & Treachery

The members of the Party in Dome Kwabenya strongly believe that it was their MP, Adwoa Safo who betrayed the NPP on the eve of January 7, 2021 during the election of a new Speaker of Parliament. Their belief was confirmed by a lot of the NPP MPs including some of their leaders as well as Party executives. She voted for the NDC’s Alban Bagbin to become Speaker as against the President’s choice and for that matter the NPP’s candidate. In effect, today, because of Adwoa Safo’s betrayal and treachery, the Parliament of Ghana under an NPP government, has an NDC Speaker.

No wonder Adwoa Safo has become the “darling girl” of the Minority in Parliament and their Speaker. They even praise her for helping them to sabotage government business in Parliament. And when her seat was supposed to be declared vacant in consonance with the Constitution of the Republic for abandoning Parliament and acting in contempt of the august house, Speaker Bagbin and the Minority again rose to her defense. They defied the provisions of the Constitution for the sake of their “darling girl”.

Adwoa Safo’s betrayal is also strongly felt at the Constituency level. She has betrayed all the people who stood by her during her low moments. She has betrayed her close associates including her Personal Assistants and former campaign team members. She betrayed the Constituency Executives who supported her particularly the Constituency Chairman who defied all odds and stood by Adwoa. She worked against Chairman Bonsu’s bid for the MCE job, not once, but on two occasions.

That is Adwoa Safo for you. No wonder her name has become synonymous with betrayal and treachery in Dome Kwabenya. Her political sins cannot be listed exhaustively. The people of Dome Kwabenya particularly the party delegates are 100% justified when they say they have had enough of Adwoa Safo, and would not make a mistake to vote for her. Dome Kwabenya indeed, deserves a better representation, and so, shall it be, by the grace of God.

Sarah Adwoa Safo, the former Minister in charge of Gender, Children, and Social Protection, who happens to be the current Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya constituency in the Greater Accra Region, faced severe backlash for abandoning her parliamentary duties and constituency for about two years.

The NPP and its caucus’s efforts to bring her back to parliament proved futile, leading to President Akufo Addo dismissing her from her ministerial position eventually in July 2022 after several calls for her sacking.

During her time abroad, Adwoa Safo posted a video on social media that further angered Ghanaians. In the video, she was seen dancing and singing, which many interpreted as taunting her constituents rather than expressing remorse for her prolonged absence. Despite dramatic attempts to reconcile with Dome-Kwabenya constituents, including buying and serving them yoghurt, her efforts were in vain.

A few months before the parliamentary primaries, Adwoa Safo attempted to regain support from her angry constituents, but they remained adamant, viewing a vote for her as a slap in the face. On election day, she faced defeat, losing to her long-time contender, Mike Oquaye Jr.

Why Ghanaians celebrated Adwoa Safo ‘s loss in NPP primaries

Ghanaians erupted in celebration following the defeat of Sarah Adwoa Safo in the recently held New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primaries.

The joyous reactions stem from a series of controversies and alleged misconduct that surrounded both candidates and arrogance among other things, which made Ghanaians decide to punish them at the polls.

In May 2022 Some Ghanaians blasted her the MP for buying expensive Chevrolet for her son and not her father’s Kantanka. The commentators stressed on why she didn’t purchase a car that is made in Ghana since the leaders keep preaching the citizens must buy goods produced in country.Apart from her decision to buy a vehicle not produced by her father, some of the concerns expressed bordered on the car, Chevrolet Corvette, being too expensive for her son since most Ghanaians are facing tough economic times.

Adowa Safo, is the daughter of famous Ghanaian Industrialist and Pastor, Apostle Kwadwo Safo  popularly known as Safo Kantanka, producer of Ghana -made SUV cars dubbed “Kantanka”.

Adwoa Safo, was first elected as the member of parliament for Dome Kwabenya in 2012. And she has been re-elected in 2016 and 2020. She was deputy majority leader of the 7th Parliament of the Republic of Ghana and is the only female MP in Ghana to ascend to the number 2 position of the Majority front.

She was appointed Minister of State in charge of Government Procurement in 2017, serving till 2021,under  Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo 5th president of the 4th  Republic of Ghana.

In the eighth parliament under the fourth Republic of Ghana, President Akufo-Addo appointed her as the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection sge served in this capacity until 28 July 2022 when she was relieved of her duties.
