The President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, has called on citizens of Litola ward in Namtumbo district, Ruvuma region, to actively participate in the upcoming local government elections scheduled for November.
Speaking to the community on Thursday, September 26, 2024, President Samia emphasized the importance of electing competent leaders to advance development projects in their areas. “It is essential for qualified individuals to run for office without any hindrances, and for those eligible to vote, I urge you all to participate actively in this election. We must come out and choose our leaders,” President Samia stated.
In her address, President Samia criticized the tendency of some citizens to remain passive and complain about elected leaders instead of engaging in the electoral process. “You sit in meetings and start complaining, ‘What kind of leader is that? Who did they elect?’ If you had gone out to vote, you could have chosen the leader you want,” she added.
Dr. Samia also stressed that the visible progress in sectors such as education, health, water, agriculture, and electricity requires leaders with vision and excellent governance to continue implementing development plans. She explained that without capable leaders, the government’s efforts to foster development would be compromised.
The President reminded citizens that elections are their opportunity to determine their development trajectory and that it is their responsibility to elect leaders who are genuinely committed to serving them. She urged every citizen to make informed choices, highlighting that local government elections are crucial for strengthening democracy and bringing about positive changes in the community.
