He stated that the driver was in a Fuso truck with registration number T 983 BZZ, owned by Kitulo Water Company.
“The cause of this incident is that on the night of July 24, this year, the driver entered the vehicle with a charcoal stove. While charging his phone, he fell asleep and died from inhaling carbon monoxide from the charcoal.
“I urge the people of Njombe to stop using charcoal stoves in enclosed spaces, as it is dangerous to their health,” warned Commander Banga.
The deceased’s wife, Catherine Haule, told Nipashe that her husband had informed her he was going to charge a radio in the car after returning from work at night but was found locked inside until 6 a.m.
“Inside the house, we had a small charcoal stove that he used frequently to warm himself, and our child liked to stoke it.
“I thought it was here, but he had taken it to the car along with the children’s blanket,” she said.
Catherine mentioned that when the police arrived, they found him inside the car with his body covered by a blanket.
The Executive Officer of Mjimwema Ward, Theophil Mwinuka, said it was common for the driver to charge his phone in the car.
Some residents of Mjimwema Ward, including Nolbert Mkalawa, said they received information at around 7 a.m. that the driver had not exited the vehicle and the doors were locked.
