Ummy Mwalimu stated that the trend in the provision of nutrition education in the country demonstrates good progress and has continued to strengthen due to government efforts alongside the positive response from citizens and stakeholders.
The Minister highlighted that the government has expanded the scope of educating and raising awareness on nutrition issues by using various methods, including media outlets such as radio, television, and social media platforms nationwide, as well as during community gatherings, especially during various commemorations.
Additionally, the presence of an educational curriculum that includes health and nutrition issues at both primary and secondary levels provides students with the opportunity to learn about nutrition.
Minister Ummy emphasized that the inclusion of nutrition education in the school curriculum is a significant step towards ensuring that children and adolescents receive the necessary knowledge about proper nutrition from an early age.
To enhance the understanding of nutrition education, the Ministry launched the National Guide on Food and Eating in November 2023. This guide aims to promote the proper use of a balanced diet, emphasizing the consumption of locally available foods.
Minister Ummy noted that this guide serves as an important tool in educating the public about healthy eating habits and the benefits of a varied diet.
Furthermore, Ummy stated that nutrition education continues to be provided at health service delivery points across the country, especially during maternal and child clinics and other outpatient clinics.
This ongoing education ensures that mothers and children receive vital information on proper nutrition, contributing to better health outcomes.

Ummy reiterated the government’s commitment to improving nutrition education and promoting healthy eating habits among Tanzanians. She called upon all stakeholders, including community leaders, health workers, and the media, to continue supporting the government’s efforts in this vital area.
By working together, the country can achieve significant improvements in the health and well-being of its citizens through enhanced nutrition education and awareness.
The government’s continuous efforts and the positive reception from the public and various stakeholders highlight the collective endeavor to address nutrition issues in the country. This collaboration is crucial in achieving the overarching goal of better health for all Tanzanians.
