The Tanzanian government, through the Deputy Minister of Education, Science, and Technology, Omary Kipanga, has pledged to tackle the pressing educational challenges in Muheza District, Tanga Region.
Speaking at the “Mwalimu Conference 2024,” where he was the guest of honor, Kipanga announced plans to introduce Form Five and Six classes and establish a branch of Mzumbe University in Tanga to improve education access and quality in the region.
The conference, part of Education Week celebrations in Muheza District, was held to assess and find solutions to the educational challenges facing the region. Deputy Minister Kipanga assured residents that the government is committed to enhancing education infrastructure and learning opportunities, working alongside stakeholders to ensure equitable access across all regions.
Hamis Mwinjuma, the Deputy Minister for Culture, Arts, and Sports and Member of Parliament for Muheza, emphasized the need for more advanced-level schools in the district. He urged Kipanga to support the initiative to ensure that students can pursue their education without having to travel long distances. Mwinjuma’s request reflects the pressing need for increased educational facilities in the area, which has a significant population of students seeking advanced-level education.
District Commissioner Zainab Abdallah, while addressing the conference, mentioned the campaign titled “The Child of Today, the Samia of Tomorrow,” which aims to motivate students by promoting the idea that today’s children can aspire to become future leaders, such as the President of the United Republic of Tanzania. The campaign has reached six wards and more than 12 schools, aiming to inspire students and foster a positive learning environment for all genders.
In a related session held at the Parliament in Dodoma on May 29, 2024, Deputy Minister Kipanga responded to inquiries regarding the government’s plans to uplift education standards, especially in marginalized areas. He detailed strategies, including investment in infrastructure, teacher training, and partnerships with educational stakeholders to ensure high-quality education across the country. Additionally, plans are underway to provide incentives for teachers working in remote areas and to ensure that education policies are implemented effectively to bridge the educational gap across different regions. Kipanga emphasized that these measures are part of the government’s larger goal to ensure equitable access to education for all students.
