A young man from Msaranga, Moshi Municipality, Kilimanjaro Region, has tragically lost his life after falling into a well at a prominent fuel station in the heart of Moshi town.
“This is a devastating tragedy that has left our community in mourning,” said Fatma Khamis, a resident of Msaranga. “We demand accountability and assurances that such incidents will never happen again.”
The deceased, identified as Shalom Tarimo (21), was reportedly at the fuel station, which is allegedly owned by a well-known Moshi businessman, when the incident occurred. The well, which was being renovated at the time, had been used for storing fuel at the station.
According to Jeremiah Mkomagi, the Acting Commander of the Kilimanjaro Regional Fire and Rescue Brigade, the tragic incident took place earlier today, August 9th, 2024. Mkomagi confirmed that Tarimo’s body has been recovered and transported to the Mawenzi Hospital for further examination.

The fuel station where the incident occurred has been a subject of scrutiny, as the well had been left unattended for an extended period, raising concerns about the safety measures in place. Locals have expressed shock and dismay over the tragic loss of life, calling for a thorough investigation into the matter.
The Kilimanjaro Regional Commissioner’s office has pledged to work closely with the local authorities and the fuel station management to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding Tarimo’s untimely demise. Measures will be taken to ensure the safety and well-being of the community, with a particular focus on addressing any potential hazards at the fuel station.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of this young life, and our hearts go out to the family and loved ones of Shalom Tarimo,” said Kilimanjaro Regional Commissioner, Hamisi Mwinyimvua. “We will leave no stone unturned in our quest to understand how this tragic incident occurred and to implement the necessary safeguards to prevent such occurrences in the future.”
