The 31st Nane Nane International Agricultural Exhibition has commenced across the nation, bringing attention to the Southern Agricultural Growth Corridor of Tanzania’s (SAGCOT) latest transformative plans. In a significant development, SAGCOT has announced its intention to expand its successful agricultural model nationwide, rebranding as the Agricultural Growth Corridors of Tanzania (AGCOT).
During a recent address, Geoffrey Kirenga, the CEO of SAGCOT Centre, highlighted this milestone as a pivotal moment in the organization’s history. “This is a very special year for SAGCOT and its partners as it marks the year that SAGCOT is embarking towards taking its work beyond the SAGCOT area to the rest of the country and shall be known as the Agricultural Growth Corridors of Tanzania (AGCOT),” Kirenga stated.
SAGCOT has been instrumental in revolutionizing Tanzania’s agricultural sector over the past decade, facilitating substantial private-sector investments totaling over $1.32 billion (3.3 trillion/-). This financial inflow has significantly bolstered the agricultural value chain, supporting farmers, enhancing infrastructure, and driving sustainable growth within the sector.

Kirenga’s announcement underscores the organization’s commitment to not only continuing its success but also amplifying its impact across Tanzania. The expansion aims to replicate the SAGCOT model’s successes in new regions, promoting increased agricultural productivity and development.
The government has also pledged its support, committing to invest in necessary infrastructure to bolster the agricultural value chain. This collaborative effort between SAGCOT, the government, and private sector partners reflects a unified vision for advancing Tanzania’s agricultural sector.
The rebranding to AGCOT signifies a new era of growth and opportunity, as the initiative seeks to extend its reach and influence throughout the country. The success of SAGCOT in its initial phase serves as a robust foundation for this ambitious expansion, promising a future of enhanced agricultural productivity and economic development for Tanzania.
