On November 22, 2024, Tanzania’s Foreign Minister, Hon. Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, arrived in Luanda, Angola, to participate in the 18th Ordinary Meeting of Foreign Ministers from the Great Lakes Region.
The meeting, scheduled for November 24, 2024, will focus on addressing political and security challenges within the region, particularly in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Sudan, and the Central African Republic.
The Great Lakes region has long been marred by instability, violence, and conflicts over resources. This summit, convened by Angola’s Foreign Minister and Chairperson of the Ministerial Meeting, Hon. Ambassador Téte António, will serve as a critical platform to discuss strategies for peace and security. The ministers will review past agreements and evaluate the effectiveness of plans aimed at resolving ongoing conflicts, promoting good governance, and ensuring regional stability.
The primary agenda includes strengthening diplomatic relations, improving military cooperation, and advancing development initiatives that can address the underlying causes of instability. This forum provides an opportunity to strengthen regional unity and develop comprehensive action plans that focus on negotiations, military intervention, and humanitarian aid.
In addition to the official meeting, Minister Kombo is expected to engage in bilateral talks with leaders from across the Great Lakes region, solidifying Tanzania’s diplomatic relations and exploring avenues for further cooperation on economic and security matters.
