The Morogoro Regional Police are holding Kulwa Bosco, popularly known as Rasta, aged 27, in connection with the stabbing of his peer, Hussein Nyabu Steven, aged 35.
The incident occurred on September 29, 2024, around 1 PM at a pool table in the Ngerengere North neighborhood, following a heated argument over a mere 200 shillings.
According to police reports, the altercation escalated quickly when Bosco and Steven were engaged in a friendly game of pool. The disagreement began over the payment of 200 shillings, which ultimately led to a violent confrontation. Witnesses at the scene described the atmosphere as initially jovial, with both men laughing and enjoying their game before tensions flared.
“Everyone was having a good time until they started arguing. It was surprising to see how quickly things turned violent,” said one witness, who preferred to remain anonymous. “One moment they were laughing, and the next, we heard shouting and then a scream.”
After the argument intensified, Bosco allegedly pulled out a sharp object and stabbed Steven in the abdomen. Eyewitnesses reported that Steven fell to the ground, bleeding profusely, prompting bystanders to call for assistance. The police were alerted to the scene, and officers arrived promptly to transport Steven to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment.
As the investigation unfolds, police have assured the community that they will conduct a thorough inquiry into the incident. Morogoro Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Adam Kihinga, stated, “We are taking this matter very seriously. Violence, especially over trivial disputes, is unacceptable. Our officers are currently gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses.”
The police have also urged anyone with information related to the incident to come forward and assist in the investigation. “We need the community’s help to ensure that justice is served. Every detail matters,” ACP Kihinga emphasized.
Local leaders have expressed their concern regarding the incident, calling for more awareness and conflict resolution education within the community. They emphasized the importance of addressing disputes peacefully and the need for recreational spaces like pool tables to promote unity rather than violence.
As for the suspect, Kulwa Bosco, he remains in custody as the police continue their investigation. He is expected to face charges related to assault and causing grievous bodily harm. Meanwhile, the community is left grappling with the aftermath of the violence, a stark reminder of how quickly a trivial disagreement can escalate into something far more serious.
