Nine major roads in Dar es Salaam will be temporarily closed for six days, starting today, Saturday, 25 January 2025, to facilitate the arrival of dignitaries attending the Africa Energy Conference.

During this period, motorcycles (bodabodas) and tricycles (bajajis) will be prohibited from entering the city centre. The conference, scheduled for 27–28 January 2025, will host over 25 African presidents and 60 ministers from various nations.

Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police Commander Jumanne Muliro announced today that the closures would remain in effect until 30 January 2025 due to the high-profile nature of the event. The affected roads include Nyerere Road, from Julius Nyerere International Airport to the city centre, and Sokoine, Kivukoni, and Lithuli Roads, spanning from the Gerezani traffic lights to Johari Rotana Hotel, Hyatt Regency, and the State House.

Additionally, Ohio Road from Kivukoni to Serena Hotel, Ghana Road from Ohio Road to Onomo Hotel, and Bibi Titi Road from the intersection of Ohio and Ally Hassan Mwinyi Roads to Crowne Plaza Hotel will be closed.

Travellers from the Chanika area are encouraged to use the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) project’s alternative route, exiting onto Mandela and Uhuru Roads.
