Deputy Minister of Energy Judith Kapinga said, The government, through the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC), continues with the implementation of various natural gas distribution projects in the Dar es Salaam region.
“So far, the government has distributed natural gas via pipelines to 880 households in the city of Dar es Salaam in areas such as Sinza (226), Mikocheni (155), Kurasini (344), and Mwenge Mlalakuwa and the University – UDSM (155).”

“Additionally, a 12.4-kilometer-long gas pipeline has been constructed from Mwenge to Mbezi Beach via Bagamoyo Road. This pipeline has outlets in various areas to connect residential customers. Initially, two factories and six hotels have been connected to this pipeline in the Mbezi Beach area, and it will continue to connect more residential customers in the areas served by this pipeline,” said Deputy Minister Kapinga.

“TPDC, in collaboration with TAQA Dalbit, is conducting a study on the demand for natural gas and distribution methods in Dar es Salaam, expected to be completed in June this year. This will enable the development of a solid natural gas distribution plan that addresses the challenge of urban planning in the region Which areas are suitable for laying pipelines and which are not, in order to use alternative methods to ensure gas reaches the citizens”. She said
These remarks were made by Deputy Minister of Energy Judith Kapinga in response to a question from Kawe Constituency Member of Parliament, Josephat Gwajima, who inquired when the government will install gas pipelines in every home in Dar es Salaam to allow citizens to cook with affordable energy.
