The Secretary General of Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), Ambassador Emmanuel John Nchimbi, has banned a song that mocks and incites hatred against opposition parties, ordering that it must not be used by CCM members anywhere. He emphasized that CCM members must instead serve as role models by promoting love, unity, and solidarity throughout the country.

Ambassador Nchimbi took this action while addressing a large crowd of thousands of citizens in the town of Shirati, Rorya District, during a public rally held at Obwele Grounds on Friday, April 25, 2025. The rally marked the fourth day of his official working tour of Mara Region.

Before making his declaration, Ambassador Nchimbi reminded the audience of a popular song historically used by Tanzanian soldiers during the Kagera War, when they ousted the former Ugandan President Idi Amin Dada after he invaded Tanzania’s borders.

“Do you remember that song that was sung during the Kagera War… ‘If Idi Amin dies, I will not cry, I will throw him into Kagera to be food for crocodiles’? Now, I ask you to listen to another song here before I make my statement,” said Ambassador Nchimbi.

Using his phone, he played the controversial song through the loudspeaker used for the rally, allowing the audience to hear it. The song resembled the old war song but had modified lyrics targeting and inciting hatred against political opposition parties in the country.

“I am using this opportunity to continue emphasizing peace, unity, and solidarity. This year is a general election year — a year full of many temptations. It is crucial for people, especially politicians, to weigh their words carefully. Whether they are politicians from CCM or other parties, it is vital that their words strengthen our national unity. We must jealously guard our national identity.

“The words in this song are words that breed hatred. They do not build love. I hereby ban this song. As CCM members, we have a great responsibility in this country. We must lead by example. We must unite people. We must not be the source of violence. CCM is the father and mother of democracy in this nation,” stressed Ambassador Nchimbi.

In addition to his directive to CCM members, Ambassador Nchimbi also called on leaders and members of opposition parties: “All of us — CCM and opposition parties — must avoid utterances that incite hatred, conflict, and violence. If we hear an opposition leader making inflammatory statements, we must find their relatives in Singida and advise them to counsel their kin, for the path they are taking is dangerous.”

Earlier, Ambassador Nchimbi also issued instructions to the Minister for Works, Hon. Abdalla Ulega, to assure the people of Rorya — via a phone call made during the rally — about the implementation of the construction of the Mika–Utegi–Shirati–Kirongwe Road project, covering 56 kilometers. He confirmed that the project had already been announced and construction would begin by the end of this month, immediately after a contractor is secured.
