A resident of Katente Ward in Bukombe District, Geita Region, Rehema Paulo, a 26-year-old, was viciously attacked and seriously injured in what is believed to be an act of love-fueled jealousy.
Rehema sustained severe injuries to her head and hands after being assaulted with a sharp object.
The attack occurred on the night of July 24, 2024, when Rehema was reportedly lured to a meeting by a phone call from an unknown person. Upon her arrival, she was ambushed and brutally attacked. Witnesses and authorities have pointed to a romantic dispute as the motive behind the assault. It is alleged that Rehema was involved in a love triangle with a man known only as Baba Law.
Joyce Silenda, the secretary of the local neighborhood, provided a chilling account of the incident. “I received a call around 11 PM from the chairman, as I am the secretary of the local ambassador. They informed me that Rehema had been attacked with a machete. When I asked which Rehema, they told me it was the one who sells at the market.

I immediately called the chairman, and we decided to take a bodaboda to the hospital. We found her admitted in critical condition with severe head injuries and both her hands cut off,” said Silenda.
Geita Regional Police Commander, SACP Safia Jongo, confirmed the incident, stating that the suspect, along with his wife, had fled the scene and are currently being sought by the police. “We are actively searching for the suspect and his wife. We urge the community to avoid acts of vengeance and allow the law to take its course,” said Jongo.
The brutal nature of the attack has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the dangers of unresolved romantic conflicts. Local leaders and residents are calling for greater efforts to address domestic issues and prevent such violent acts.
Rehema Paulo is currently receiving medical treatment at Geita Regional Hospital. Doctors have described her condition as critical but stable. The medical team is working tirelessly to ensure she receives the best possible care, while her family and friends remain hopeful for her recovery.
