The national power utility of Zambia,ZESCO,has established a dedicated department to expedite the construction of a new power line that will import approximately 300 megawatts of electricity from Tanzania.
This strategic initiative is anticipated to significantly alleviate the current electricity shortages in Zambia, with the project slated for completion within the next nine months.
The interconnection project, a critical component of Zambia’s broader strategy to enhance its electricity supply, involves the construction of a 385-kilometer transmission line. This new infrastructure will include the development of key substations at Nakonde and Mporokoso, and the expansion of the existing substation at Kasama. The project’s overall cost is estimated at $160 million
