The Minister of State in the President’s Office for Regional Administration and Local Government (TAMISEMI), Mohamed Mchengerwa, has called on eligible citizens to come forward and contest for leadership positions in the upcoming local government elections by collecting and returning nomination forms from October 26 to November 1, 2024.
Minister Mchengerwa made this appeal during an assessment of voter registration for the elections, after registering at the Michikichini center in Umwe Kaskazini village, Rufiji district.
The minister urged qualified Tanzanians to seize the opportunity and emphasized that election campaigns should be conducted respectfully, maintaining national stability.
“The process of collecting and returning forms will take place from October 26 to November 1, 2024, and it is crucial that the upcoming campaigns focus on civilized politics that will preserve peace in the country,” said Mchengerwa.

Additionally, the minister commended citizens, political party members, and supporters for demonstrating political maturity during the voter registration process. He emphasized the importance of focusing on issue-based politics rather than confrontational politics, which could endanger the country’s peace.
Mchengerwa also called on security forces to continue ensuring peace and stability throughout the entire election process, highlighting their responsibility to safeguard citizens so they can fully participate in this important local government election.
Moreover, the minister urged election officials and all stakeholders to adhere to the laws and regulations governing the elections, ensuring the entire process is fair, transparent, and conducted according to established procedures.
The election is scheduled for November 27, 2024, giving citizens the opportunity to exercise their constitutional rights.
