The Chinese government, through its International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), has pledged to continue funding new strategic projects in Tanzania. This comes after being satisfied with the progress of the previous projects.
This was stated by the CIDCA Director, Mr. Luo Zhaohui, during talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Hon. January Makamba, in Beijing, China. These discussions were a result of Minister Makamba’s visit to the country.
Speaking during the meeting, Mr. Zhaohui said there is a high possibility that the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Samia Suluhu Hassan, may sign new cooperation and aid agreements during the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) scheduled for September this year.
“We have heard your remarks, dear Minister, and I promise you that we will fund the second phase of the projects that are nearing completion of the first phase, and others that you have requested. We may even sign [agreements] when your President visits in September this year,” said Mr. Zhaohui.
CIDCA is the institution that channels aid and loans that the Chinese government provides to countries worldwide, and Minister Makamba was visiting the institution as part of his official visit to China.
