The Minister of Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Adolf Mkenda, graced the closing ceremony of the 2024 UMITASHUMTA (Union of Sports and Academic Competitions for Primary Schools in Tanzania) games held at Tabora Boys Secondary School grounds.
The highly anticipated event, which commenced on June 5, 2024, concluded today, June 15, 2024, after nearly 10 days of intense competitions showcasing various sports talents among primary school students across Tanzania. Competitions were held at different venues, including Tabora Girls and Boys Secondary Schools, as well as the Tabora Vocational Training College.
A wide range of sports featured in the competition, including football for both boys and girls, special football, basketball, volleyball, netball, handball, artistic sports, athletics, and Goalball, a specialized sport for the visually impaired.
The conclusion of the UMITASHUMTA 2024 marks the beginning of the much-awaited UMISSETA (Union of Secondary Schools Sports Associations of Tanzania) 2024 competitions, which will involve secondary schools from all regions of Tanzania. The UMISSETA games are set to commence in Tabora on June 17, 2024.
Both UMITASHUMTA and UMISSETA 2024 competitions are organized and coordinated by the President’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG), the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Arts, and Sports.

These events not only promote sportsmanship and healthy competition but also provide a platform for young talents to showcase their skills and abilities on a national level. They play a crucial role in nurturing the future generation of athletes and promoting holistic development among Tanzanian youth.
In his address, Prof. Mkenda emphasized the importance of sports in education, stating that it fosters discipline, teamwork, and leadership skills among students. He also commended the efforts of teachers, coaches, and organizers in making the UMITASHUMTA 2024 a success.
The closing ceremony was marked by colorful performances, award presentations, and displays of sportsmanship from participating teams. Teams and individuals who excelled in various sports disciplines were honored and awarded for their outstanding performances.
As the curtains fall on UMITASHUMTA 2024, all eyes are now set on UMISSETA 2024, where more thrilling sports action and talent display are anticipated as secondary schools from across Tanzania converge in Tabora for another exciting sporting spectacle.
