Executive Director Prof. Mohamed Janabi of National Hospital Muhimbili has announced the continuation of advanced orthopedic treatments, including hip and knee joint replacements.
This effort aims to reduce the inconvenience and costs associated with seeking such treatments abroad.
Prof. Janabi made this announcement at a press conference in Dar es Salaam, where he highlighted the start of a specialized camp for hip and knee replacements. The camp, which began today and will last for five days, is being conducted in collaboration with Dr. Venuthuria Ram Mohan Reddy, an orthopedic specialist from India with over 30 years of experience.
He emphasized that, despite the collaboration with Dr. Reddy, local experts at Muhimbili Hospital have significant skill and expertise in joint replacements. The current focus is on enhancing their knowledge of global practices in these procedures.

“This is not the first time we are performing these surgeries at our Muhimbili-Mloganzila facility; we have successfully treated approximately 173 patients who are now doing well. Hip and knee replacement surgeries are safe, and there is no need for anyone to endure pain when solutions are available,” Prof. Janabi added.
Dr. Abubakar Hamis, a specialist in hip and knee replacements, noted that many of the patients undergoing these surgeries are due to excessive weight and advanced age.
Prof. Venuthuria Ram Mohan Reddy, the visiting specialist, stated that this camp would provide an opportunity to exchange expertise with the hospital’s staff.
