A wife and her brother have been sentenced to death for conspiring to murder her husband. The High Court of Tanzania, sitting at the Kigoma Registry, issued the verdict on September 23, 2024, under the presiding judge, John Nkwabi.
Rehema Maksoni, the wife, orchestrated the murder of her husband, Lameck Makupi, by hiring her brother, Ajuaye Maksoni, and an accomplice, Shadrack Paschal. It is alleged that Rehema paid the two individuals Sh100,000 to carry out the crime, citing her husband’s irresponsible behavior as the motivation for her actions. She claimed that he was squandering the family’s resources on alcohol, reportedly selling food to finance his drinking habits.
The crime was committed when Lameck was brutally stabbed in the stomach with a sharp object, leading to severe injuries that resulted in his intestines protruding. Following their arrest, Rehema and her brother confessed to police that they had planned the murder, expressing their frustration with Lameck’s lifestyle and their desire to terminate the marriage.
